Paper Stool(小名秀之と共同制作) (2007)

ゴミ箱にたまった、書き損じのラブレター。
ゴミなのに捨てられない。紙なのに重い。

そんな、軽くて、儚くて、それでも強い紙の椅子

The concept of our stool is about reforming people's consciousness for the
environment.Instead of using new materials that have low environmental load,
we want to maximize the utilitypotential ofexisting materials. We want to
explore the possibility of lengthening a material's period of usability via
convenient ways of recycling instead ofproducinga long lasting material that
cannot be easily recycled.

The inspiration for the shape of the stool originated from the image of a wastepaper
basket full of discarded love letters.

Although unwanted, due to the attached feelings one has for them, one is unwilling
to throw them away as yet.

The stool can be reformed by moistening the vulcanized paper. If partially damaged,
new vulcanized paper can be added to mend it, or it can also be remodeled into
a smaller stool. Due to the flexibility of the vulcanized paper to take different
shapes via our intended processing, other furnitures like coffee table, sofa or
even a Japanese cushion can be easily produced.
